Personal News

Here are the important things that have happened to me recently, things that I don't thing people will find as monotonous as my blog, which will probably tend to ramble quite a bit! Hopefully this page will be just as busy though! Don't forget to use the RSS feed if you're that way inclined.

New House!

29th April 2007

Claire and I have put a holding deposit down for a new house! Our new house is closer to work for me, in a beautiful area not too far from Morden Underground and surrounded by parks! See more information in my blog.

Pneumothorax latest

22nd April 2007

So I'd had another pneumothorax or collapsed lung (remember Eat my goal?) on Friday 30th March 2007.

That's another date to remember along with the previous failure of my left lung, on 2nd January 2005.

To retify this time, I had a pleurectomy, which will hopefully stop it ever happening again, but that's just my left lung, my right lung is still high risk! So I have finally done it (fingers crossed) and stopped smoking. No more Marlboro, I wouldn't mind one now and then, but why. It's not worth it and to remind me of that I think I'll be carrying my hospital bracelet around, just in case I'm tempted, to remind me of the agony of having one lung and the pain of a pleurecomy.

A more details account of my time since my lung collapsed is in my blog, Bloody hell, another pneumothorax?.

Read between the lines

1st November 2006

Well, it's slightly more interesting than that.  I have signed up for (through work) the Ernest Bevin College, Tooting, reading mentoring scheme.  Apparently this involves me visiting the school once a week to read with a disadvantaged young person who is willing to go into school early to catch up with their more advanced (in terms of reading age) peers.

From a former participant: "Getting [the students] reading up to speed quickly when they arrive at Ernest Bevin can be the difference between them failing for the rest of their lives - with predictable consequences - or having a chance to get on and achieve something. It really is that significant."

So there we go, 5:30am alarm call for me please!
