Web Stuff

My internet efforts so far...

I've not been doing this long. It all started a few years ago while I was working as a customer services manager at the ill fated DOL (RIP), when I got interested in the web site we were provided with. I was impressed and suddenly I started coding my personal web site. Starting with Dreamweaver MX2004 and some internet tutorials, I created some very ugly designs with many tables.

Since then I have been learning religiously and found PHP and suddenly I was creating dynamic websites. I was lucky enough to get a job with Electric Avenue Computers as a web designer, and learnt a lot form my new colleagues Marcus C and Andy Souter. I have moved on from Dreamweaver and now code exclusively in EditPad Pro, an awesome program by Jan Goyvaerts.

After Electric Avenue, I was extremely fortunate that Gyro International decided to employee me in the role of web author in Chelsea, and I'm loving it. I'm still learning a lot, but it'll all fall into place soon and I'll hopefully be an accomplished programmer in a variety of languages.

  • SVG Tiny 1.2 Advances State of the Art for Web Graphics
2008-12-22: Creating beautiful and accessible interactive content was made easier today with the release of the Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) Tiny 1.2 Recommendation. Already implemented and deployed in mobile phones, media centers, and browsers around the world, this open standard allows authors to build documents and interfaces for the Web, with open-source and commercial authoring tools that output open, reusable content. Searchable, internationalized text and user-created metadata bring the Semantic Web to graphics, and improve the experience of users everywhere, while easier programming interfaces put the power in the hands of developers. A test suite helps to ensure interoperable SVG content in modern Web browsers, making it easier than ever to develop and deploy the right look and feel. • Element Traversal Specification Is a W3C Recommendation
2008-12-22: The Web Applications Working Group has published the W3C Recommendation of Element Traversal Specification. This specification defines the ElementTraversal interface, which allows script navigation of the elements of a DOM tree, excluding all other nodes in the DOM, such as text nodes. It also provides an attribute to expose the number of child elements of an element. It is intended to provide a more convenient alternative to existing DOM navigation interfaces, with a low implementation footprint. Learn more about the Rich Web Client Activity. (Permalink)
